Habitat Chairman Jim Smith of Ceresco reported the results of our seed distribution and habitat work. This year we gave enough seed to habitat co-operators to plant 398 acres of wildlife habitat! Eighty-two land owners in the county took part in establishing this habitat. We purchased over 8,000 pounds of habitat seed. It WILL make a difference in Calhoun County.
Much of the native prairie habitat was planted with a Truax drill that was purchased for the DNR with money donated by Pheasants Forever. This year 104 acres of warm season grasses were planted. With 294 acres of food plots on 53 projects.
The habitat committee felt that this year's participants were very dedicated to properly planting the seed to get the best results for their efforts.
Several people took the time while picking up their seed to share their habitat success (and some failure)stories from last year which are always good to hear about. We all learn from each other.
Congratulations to all of our members who make this possible. Without your support none of this would happen.
Many special thanks to the habitat committee for this years seed distribution. And to member Bob Holmes for donating a four-row corn planter to the club.
