Switchgrass Fields

Photos of switchgrass fields

Photos of a switchgrass field.

Many have asked us about what a Switchgrass field actually looks like. Here are two shots taken at Rose Lake an experimental planting of the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.

One of the advantages of Switchgrass is that it is stiff enough to stand up to heavy snow. Birds can burrow under the clumps to keep warm during a bitter, cold spell.

Because it is a clump grass, young pheasant chicks are able to make their way through the "tunnels" in what looks like heavy grass. And it makes it much more difficult for predators to catch them.
